Thinking of Visiting Kenya?

Kenya is one of Africa’s top travel destinations — rich in wildlife, culture, and breathtaking scenery. But before you pack your bags, it’s important to understand Kenya’s new visa and travel authorization process.

As of January 2024, Kenya replaced the traditional visa system with an online Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). Here’s everything you need to know — including types of visas, how to apply, and answers to frequently asked questions.

Do I Need a Visa or eTA to Visit Kenya?

Yes — most international travelers need either an eTA or a specific type of eVisa to enter Kenya.

Types of Travel Documents

1. Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA)

Required for most short visits (tourism, business, family, medical). This is the new standard for entry into Kenya.

2. eVisa

Still issued for specific purposes like:

  1. Long-term work, study, or volunteering
  2. Official and diplomatic missions
  3. Multiple-entry visits
